Walk the right path

Today I start with a Bible verse to set the stage.
“Thy word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105

     Understanding the Word of God is important for leaders; it’s vital. Leadership is a topic of interest to me and the transfer of leadership from Moses to Joshua is a study I have enjoyed.  And Moses certainly knew about walking ~ he did it for 40 years in the desert.  Take a look at the first three chapters of the book of Joshua in the Old Testament of the Bible to review the transfer of the leader of Israel and the acceptance by the people of their new leader.  The leader actually chosen by God some time earlier as reported in the previous chapter, Deuteronomy 31:14.  Importantly his leadership acceptance by the people was confirmed when they "walked" following the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD their God across the flood stage river Jordan.  

     I watch leaders carefully.  They know where they are going as they lead and they inspire others to walk with them.  They get the meaning of what the fruit of the Spirit; the Spirit of God is all about.
"But the fruit of the Spirit is
love,
joy,
peace,
longsuffering,
kindness,
goodness,
faithfulness,
gentleness,
self-control.
Against such there is no law."
Galatians 5:22-23

It is vitally important for leaders to communicate well, very well. The inclusion of self-control in this passage refers to the tongue.  Leaders must communicate effectively internally within the organization and externally sharing vision and purpose to be successful.  
 
“ … refuse foolish and ignorant speculations, knowing that they produce quarrels”.  II Timothy 2:23  

In this second Epistle of Paul to Timothy, he continues to say we “must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition . . . " 

Good leaders, the ones we want to follow along life’s path, continue to grow to be closer to God when applying Biblical principles to their daily routine.  

A healthy observation is from a new Intern to this ministry.  He penned the following, “I will use this opportunity to grow as a person and become closer with God”.  This indicates an openness to God’s leading in his life, directing and lighting each step of the way.  Can you say that?  This is a characteristic of a leader.  You can follow his BLOG on this site throughout the next scholastic year as he studies at the University of Ghana, West Africa.  And you can support his effort too.
