Music historically is significant to mankind; more significantly songs are important as documented in the annals of time. Moses, the great leader of the Israelites at the age of 120 years faced leadership changes and penned a song that was given to him from God.
“Now write down this song and teach it to the Israelites and have them sing it, so that it may be a witness for me against them.”

At a young age my precious grandmother Archer shared with me her favorite hymn; “Under His Wings”. I don’t recall the nature of the conversation when this came up, but it just might have been a time she noticed my discomfort.
Written by William Cushing and sang by Ira D. Sankey (1840-1908) at the D.L.Moody Revival meetings in the US and Europe in the late 1800’s it is a comforting song. Perhaps it is a song for the times we live in today.

2020 and now in to 2021 - a time of Social - Political - Financial - Environmental challenges.
Under His wings I am safely abiding;
Though the night deepens and tempests are wild;
Still I can trust Him, I know He will keep me;
He has redeemed me, and I am His child.
Under His wings, under His wings,
Who from His live can sever?
Under His wings my soul shall abide,
Safely abide forever.
Under His wings-what a refuge in sorrow!
How the heart yearningly turns to His rest!
Often when earth has no balm for my healing,
There I find comfort, and there I am blest.
Under His wings-oh, what precious enjoyment!
There will I hide till life’s trials are o’re;
Sheltered, protected, no evil can harm me;
Resting in Jesus I’m safe evermore.

The song has meaning for me because of that conversation. Perhaps it led to my spiritual growth understanding that resting in Jesus is a safe place to be. In a posting in Aril 2015 of these BLOG’s I recalled a verse of scripture that refers to my youth. I talked about Bible memorization;
It goes as follows:
Actually I need to admit that the first verse I memorized because I wanted to was Philippians 4:4. It was not for a prize or a classroom assignment, but because I choose to memorize it. It is vivid in my memory. Perhaps I chose it because it because it is short.
But oh, is it good. “Rejoice in the LORD always; again I will say, rejoice!” What a great verse to tuck away in the corner of your mind. And grow in the verses that follow;
“Rejoice in the LORD always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The LORD is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Thru the years the importance of not only knowing about Jesus, but accepting Him as Savior became more of a reality for me. That is what I desire for each one of you. And these verses will help you keep a cheerful spirit.
